Sad to hear your story about increasing your pain in PT. I’ve been through post surgical joint rehab, I know how just doing the movements left me panting and sweating. My daughter said I looked more gray than the squashed squirrel we passed in the road. I can’t help but be in awe that you took that and pushed harder. After dealing with the uncontrollable BS roller coaster, I can understand your desire for the illusion of more control. I’m glad someone has suggested being more gentle. I hope these next weeks will bring softness and joy.
Chaos: it is as we define it, I guess. I look at politics as chaos these days and feel absolutely powerless. I heard an interview today with Jim Acosta and Heather Cox Richardson. He noted that as guard rails have fallen, he thinks we will survive and be stronger because on US 250 anniversary, we like the founders, will know what is at stake and will cherish democracy even more.
If that analogy can be compared to your struggle, having faced the whirlwind of chaos, perhaps love of living will arise even more. I hold you in my heart.
I’m sorry to hear you are in so much pain. Your story reminds me that Pain can teach us to be kind and gentle with our bodies, and maybe even our hearts when they are in pain. When we push beyond the pain, might anger be driving our motivations? And of course, behind the anger, there is the fear of the unknown. Chaos is like that also. The looming unknown…. At this point in my life, I choose to believe order does come out of chaos and I’m holding that hope for all of us and our planet. And as I cope with my own pain, I will be kinder to my body. Thank you for that reminder.

Reading your beautiful post + my recent obsession with David Whyte made me think of this: https://toko-pa.com/2013/12/15/on-pain-by-david-whyte/
I love this post. Beautifully written and so astute.
